Microbial Source Tracking

The Heart River Watershed Group requested microbial source tracking within the waters of the Heart River to determine the origins of elevated bacterial contamination. In a partnership with the Provincial Health Lab, Metagenomics Inc. used DNA analysis to determine the domestic and wild animal sources of bacteria within the water. These analyses were pertinent to determining the level of risk to human health.

Invasive species monitoring: 2017-Ongoing

eDNA Metagenomics Inc. was contacted by AIPA to conduct water quality monitoring due to concerns of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in Alberta. Under detection of zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) larvae (veligers) in the Tiber Reservoir in north-central Montana in 2017, there was elevated concern that this invasive species may have entered southern Alberta.
